Recently, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation's Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and China Shipbuilding Industry Trading Company signed a contract with X-Press Feeder Group, a Singaporean shipowner, for the construction of 6+2 1250TEU methanol dual-fuel open-top container ships.

The virtual signing ceremony was attended by Shmuel Yoskovitz, CEO of X-Press Feeders Group, Francis Goh, Chief Financial Officer, Captain RS Minhas, Executive Director of Eastaway Company, Chairman Xiang Huiming of Huangpu Wenchong, Wu Aijun, Vice General Manager of CSSC Trading, and Lin Jie, Chief Expert of Container Ships at Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute.

The 1250TEU methanol dual-fuel open-top strengthened container vessel GREEN SEALION 1250, which has been contracted this time, is designed and developed by Shanghai Ship Design Institute. It is a new environmentally friendly ship that uses methanol, fuel dual-fuel, and EGR, and can meet the emission requirements of Tier III of the International Maritime Organization. The vessel has a length of 148 meters, a width of 27.2 meters, a carrying capacity of 14,210 tons, and can achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions by adding green methanol to the main engine. The vessel is also equipped with shaft generators, which can fully recover the energy generated by the main engine operation, saving energy consumption and reducing operating costs for the shipowner to a certain extent. It is a green ship that integrates environmental protection, energy-saving, high efficiency, and economy.

Features of this vessel type: 1. Strong adaptability for cargo: it can load various sizes of containers such as 20, 30, 40, and 45 feet, meeting the needs of European feeder routes, and has a large number of refrigerated container sockets. 2. High loading and unloading efficiency: adopting an open-top design without hatch covers reduces the workload of tying and opening/closing hatches, greatly improving the loading and unloading efficiency and shortening the stay time in port. 3. Green and environmentally friendly: adhering to the low-carbon environmental design concept, it uses low-carbon methanol fuel. Nitrogen oxide emissions meet the IMO Tier III standard, and the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) is about 15% lower than the third phase.

At the signing ceremony, Xiang Huiming, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Huangpu Wenchong Company, expressed his gratitude to the shipowner for their trust and support. He emphasized the importance of the 1250TEU methanol dual-fuel open-top strengthened container vessel, a green and environmentally friendly ship type, and reaffirmed Huangpu Wenchong's commitment to delivering high-quality vessels on schedule. He also expressed confidence in establishing a long-term and friendly cooperative relationship between the two parties.

This is the first time that CSSC Trading and Huangpu Wenchong have undertaken the construction of a methanol feeder container vessel, demonstrating Huangpu Wenchong's strong capabilities in the field of feeder container vessel construction. As statistics show, Huangpu Wenchong has delivered over 200 feeder container vessels to customers worldwide.

Huangpu Wenchong stated that with the shipping industry included in the EU emissions trading system, there is an urgent demand for low-carbon and zero-carbon ships, and green ship types will be the future direction of development. Undertaking this project marks Huangpu Wenchong's dedication to green and high-quality development, firmly establishes its leading position in the international market for green ship types, and further enhances the brand influence of Huangpu Wenchong's feeder container vessels globally.
